Undocumented: The Akil Augustine Story

Undocumented is a compelling story that shines a light on one of nearly 500 000 undocumented immigrants that live in Canada, highlighting the systemic structures Canada imposes that forces these people into the shadows. The 35-minute documentary tells an immigrant story that is undoubtedly more common than most can imagine. Born in Trinidad and Tobago, Akil Augustine brought to Canada at the age of 4 without his parents, permission or knowledge. After hiding for more than a decade and a half, he is ready to share his story.

Personal Note,

What began as a school project for my fourth year practicum class, turned into one of the most important projects I have ever been a part of. A group of very talented peers of mine set out on a goal to create a compelling story for our final thesis project of our Bachelor’s and decided to take the project past our academic due date and complete a project we were proud of.

My work as Producer for this project brought an incredible amount of pride and joy to be able to collaborate in a small team of my friends to share something we thought was so important for the world to hear.

We made our debut screening at the the Soho-House in Toronto followed by three more sold out shows at Yonge and Dundas Cineplex. All the ticket proceeds raised and other campaign donations ($25 000) were given to the FCJ Refugee Centre, helping displaced people find a home just like Akil.
